As we have discovered, passive income can be a great way to help you generate extra cash flow. It doesn’t matter if you’re running a side hustle or just trying to get a little extra cash each month. These passive income ideas for 2025 can help you earn more during the good times.
This extra cash can come in handy to tide you over if you suddenly realize that you haven’t set enough aside for retirement. As full time RVers we have notice that inflation keeps chipping away at your purchasing power. Fuel, RV parks, food etc. have become much more expensive than when we first started RVing back in 2006.
In addition, with passive income you can have money coming in even as you work your primary job. If you’re able to build up a solid stream of passive income, you will have the financial freedom to relax a little. No matter what your reason, passive income gives you that extra security.
So what is passive income?
If you just go by the Internal Revenue Service, passive income can come from 2 sources: rental property or a business that you don’t you don’t actively participate in. Examples would be book royalties or stock dividends. Regular earnings from another source other than be paid by an employer or contractor.
But as Steve and I have learned passive income can take other forms. It’s those other forms that I want to talk about today.
You may do some, or even all of the work upfront. However passive income often includes some additional work along the way, as well. You may have to keep your product updated or your rental property well-maintained in order to keep the passive cash coming in.
Investing can be a great way to generate passive income. But it only works if the assets you invest in pay dividends or interest.
Write an eBook for passive income
Writing an eBook can be a great opportunity to take advantage of the low cost of self publishing. You can even leverage the worldwide distribution of Amazon to get your book seen by potentially millions of potential buyers. E-Books can be relatively short, perhaps as few as 30-50 pages. They can be relatively inexpensive to create, since they rely on your own expertise.
You will need to be an expert on a specific topic. That topic could be in a niche that uses some special skills or abilities that very few offer, but that many readers need. You can quickly design the book on an online platform like Canva. Then you can even test market different titles and price points.
This is one source of passive income that I’m taking advantage of. Since I’m a chef and we have stayed in each of the lower 48 states, I’m in the process of writing an eCookbook with recipes from each state. My series is called Tasting America One Bite at a Time. Sell photography online
Selling photography online might not be the most obvious place to set up a passive business. But since I take thousands of photos that reflect the beauty in America, it seemed like a good fit for us. It could allow you to scale your efforts because can sell the same photos over and over again. To do that I work with a company called Fine Art America
In order to get started, you will need to be approved by the platform. After that, some platforms such as require you to license your photos to be used by whoever downloads them. The platform then pays you every time someone uses your photo.
It’s similar on Fine Art America, but the photo’s are usually printed as wall art or products and you are paid when someone selects your photo to use.
It’s important to have photos that appeal to a specific audience or that represent a certain location. It will take time to learn which type of photo sells best. They could be almost anything! You could take shots with models, photograph stunning landscapes, gorgeous plates of food or even capture real events that might make the headlines.
Network marketing
For Steve and I, the most reliable and lucrative avenue for passive income has been network marketing a variety of products. Since we feel diversifying is key to be able to offer products that appeal to everyone. It isn’t necessarily to earn all of our income from one income stream. The more, the better. Just as long as we can keep it manageable.
